AC problems

Common AC problems we fix

We repair central air conditioners for homes in Florence and across Northern Kentucky. Common problems include:

  • AC blowing warm or barely cool air
  • Outdoor unit not running, or the AC won't turn on
  • Ice on the coil or refrigerant lines
  • Water leaking around the indoor unit
  • Short cycling: turning on and off every few minutes
  • Buzzing, clicking or grinding noises
  • Higher-than-normal electric bills
  • Thermostat or control problems

Parts we commonly repair

Capacitors & contactors

Electrical parts that start the compressor and outdoor fan.

Fan & blower motors

Motors that move air across the coils.

Refrigerant leaks

An AC doesn't use up refrigerant. If it's low, we find and repair the leak before recharging.

Drains & controls

Condensate drains, pumps, thermostats and wiring.

How it works

What happens on an AC repair visit

1
Diagnosis

We check the thermostat, electrical parts, refrigerant pressures, airflow and the condensate drain.

2
Clear options

You hear what we found and the price before any repair work begins.

3
Repair

With your OK, we make the repair, or schedule a return visit if a part has to be ordered.

4
Test

We run the system in cooling mode and confirm it's working before we leave.

Repair or replace

Repair or replace your AC?

A repair usually makes sense when the part is small and the system is otherwise healthy. Replacing your AC may make more sense when:

  • The compressor or coil fails on an older system
  • Repairs keep adding up year after year
  • The system can't keep the house comfortable
  • Your furnace is also aging and you'd like matched equipment

We'll explain both options. Complete system replacements come with a free estimate.

Maintenance

Prevent breakdowns with a tune-up

Many AC repairs start as small problems: a dirty coil, a weak capacitor or a clogged drain. A tune-up before cooling season gives us the chance to catch them early.

Questions

FAQs

Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Common causes include a dirty filter, a dirty or frozen coil, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed capacitor or fan motor. A diagnosis pinpoints which one it is.
Why is there ice on my AC lines or coil?
Ice usually points to restricted airflow, such as a clogged filter or a blower problem, or to low refrigerant. Turn cooling off so it can thaw, and call us to find the cause.
Why is water leaking around my indoor unit?
Your AC removes moisture from the air and drains it away. A clogged condensate drain or a failed condensate pump can cause water to back up and leak.
Do you handle emergency AC calls?
Yes. Emergency calls are handled by our on-call team. Call (859) 551-0056.
How much does AC repair cost?
It depends on what failed and the parts it needs. We explain what we found and the price before any repair work begins. Comfort Club members pay a $99 service call fee (non-members pay $120) and get 15% off repairs. See the Comfort Club.
How can I prevent AC breakdowns?
A tune-up before cooling season. The Comfort Club includes two seasonal tune-ups (a 17-point AC tune-up and an 18-point furnace tune-up) and priority scheduling. See the Comfort Club.
